Sands of the Skei Queen24.04.2012
Sands of the Skei Queen is an important eco-political documentary currently in production about the battle between the Pondo people and an Australian titanium mining company, backed by the SA government, in the former Transkei. “The miners have no road access to the sand dunes but the South African government approve a fenced highway that will pass through the community’s homes, farms, and graveyards. The tribe’s King and Queen publicly protest only to be dethroned by government.” It’s a story that cuts to the heart of our issues surrounding development, ecology, land and culture in one of the most pristine corners of South Africa. They’re about to pitch at the Hot Docs Forum, in order to get the funding required to finish this epic documentary film.
