WOLVES ON THE COUCH

by Mahala Scribes / 12.06.2015

A Red Bull Studios couch session was held at Zakifo last night, bringing local music production heads together to talk serious biz and play a few jams. The first panel was made up of Tiago and Rui from 340ml Sound System, followed by local producer Sketchy Bongo, rapper Aewon Wolf and OG producer Liam Magner from Veranda Panda.

The couch session (held at Vintage Coolout) was organised as a satellite event for the Zakifo Music Festival in association with DEF (Durban Electronic Festival) as well as hyping the Tomy Takkie Everyday and Custom Kicks campaigns. It was expertly hosted by Red Bull Studio Cape Town Manager, DJ and producer Richard Rumney aka Richard the Third – who used his deep knowledge of the local scene to guide the conversation and facilitate the Q&A.

We were blessed by wise words and new music from Tiago and Rui who talked about the rise and demise of 340ml and Tumi and the Volume, touring and production techniques. They were followed by local cats Sketchy Bongo and Aewon Wolf of The Wolf Pack and Liam Magner who spoke about entrepreneurship, radio play, the history of Durban hip hop and why it’s blowing up right now with the likes of Okmalumkoolkat taking over the planet. Viva Umlazi!

Catch more coolness at Zakifo tonight and tomorrow night at the Rivertown Beerhall yo. Peep the lineup and buy your tickets HERE!
