The Boat that Rockedby Rui Soeiro / 15.12.2009
World Aids Day, I was at my bank to settle some bills, I see a romantic couple exchanging some cash and both of them had this little black ticket/passport holder that caught my attention: “Miller’s Rock The Boat”.
Yes, tickets sold out in hours, hot line-up and I had a VVIP wristband. This is definitely one for the books. To have our partners with us on the boat and kids at home, honeymoon style. Bonus.
Breakfast in bed, BMW (baby making weather) and 2000 people in party mode, it had its wild moments for sure. For starters, the rain did not bother a couple of hundred people on the pool deck moving them bodies to the house beats thanks to Ricky H and Shaun Duvet, that version of, “Raindrops” just killed it.
As 340ml, we didn’t do much, compliments of Mother Nature and production team, which allowed me more time to explore this magnificent ship. 3 days of sweet fuck all, like Tiago said, “No Mafia Wars, no mobile devices, a good detox.”
Too much things happening at the same time, competitions and cocktails. A lot of drunk people indeed. It was like a mini-Oppikoppi but 50 times wilder… peoples losing control, wedding proposals, a good mix of cultures, a bit of everything. Casino, spa, movies, shops, bars and discotheque. Something for everyone.
Saturday, due to the rain, plans had to change regarding venues and artists performances times, which messed things up with the production and artists. Sound on stage was awful. Sound engineers, not only on the boat but all over Africa in general, still have a lot to learn… but that’s a different topic for another day.
That said, my sincerely apologies for the 2 ½ song set that 340ml did on Saturday and a big-up to Mr Loyiso Gola for announcing during his set when next 340ml was performing. Those comedy sessions were something else… Thanks guys, you saved the day. Trevor Noah you good but that Chinese dude, my god. I want more.
The Wild Turkey was very popular and I have to admit that the DJ Fresh and Milkshake set was good for my soul… I cannot remember which bar though…
Mother Nature blessed us with a sunny Sunday but the production team once again managed to mess things up by moving the bands inside, announcing the wrong performances time, again. Eish! For the true devoted fans of 340ml, The Parlotones, Flash Republic and The David Dee Band, thanks for the support of live music…
See you next year.
