AKA and Da Les in The Skyby Tseliso Monaheng / 24.03.2014
AKA and Da Les spent the better part of 2013 performing live together and building their chemistry, which led to them being hailed as “the Brandy and Monica of South African hip-hop,” by a certain rap commentator. They seemed more Jagged Edge/Dru Hill than the aforementioned ladies when they played at the Shine Studios recently, with dashing RnB-inspired hip gyrations to boot. The rappeurs brought along a live band to the Shine Studios in Braamfontein (where Skyroomlive gets recorded) to perform a cross-section of songs from their combined catalogues. The show offered a glimpse into what they’ve got lined up for this year’s Cape Town International Jazz Festival. Here’s a visual synopsis of what went down.
