Oh Africa!

KAK. How about nice fat slice of cheese and two dollops of guilt? We have finally found the African Celine Dion! Hopefully they paid Zolani Mahola vast sums of money to risk her career on what looks like an advert for earnest American volunteers set to the tune of Leonard Cohen’s ‘Hallelujah’. It is obvious that Alisha Popat, Peter Hollens and maybe even Zolani herself are impervious to both irony and the reality of just how bad this KAK is.

Actually, its set to the tune of John Cale’s arrangement of Hallelujah (as further covered by Jeff Buckley, Rufus Wainwright and others. LC’s version on Various Positions sounds nothing like this.

Ah Mr Villain, such valuable insight and you’re quite right. But it’s still Leonard’s property and we know he needs the cash and all is forgiven in the end anyway, innit?

Andy, it’s certainly copyright violation. Just a question of whose. Cf the controversy concerning The Flaming Lips’ ‘Fight Test’: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fight_Test#Plagiarism_controversy

good point, but the Jeff Buckley version is still a cover of Leonard’s tune, albeit reworked, so the money goes to Lenny. And Jeff doesn’t need it anyway

Utterly appalling. Unwatchable. Historical Bad. Hope Zolani, who is a friend and really cool, survives the experience. As for everyone else involved, a pox on them and their families.

Gentleman Villian is correct – off the ‘I’m your fan’ album. The song is beautiful. Also very good, imo, is Geoffrey Oryema’s rendition of ‘Suzanne’ Chris is also correct. This is not cool.
