Kif or Kak?by Nathan Zeno / 08.08.2009
Or Kak-hizzle. First off, Gangsta is spelt wrong, in terms of U.S. Hip Hop Culture. Oh Wait! Gangsta is Rap. Gangster is Cape Flats. Neither is Hip Hop. But then I guess these boys (boyz) can’t tell their KRS-1 from their Kris Kros. Then let’s get to how US Hip Hop (their caps, not mine) culture can be experienced. Who was it who said “Rap is something you do; Hip Hop is something you live?” So a hip hop “experience” is essentially not hip hop. I won’t even get to how hip hop is not a culture but a mindset. And because of that there can be no U.S. hip hop culture. Even if there was something you could define as “Gangster Culture”, why would you want to recreate it in “your Back Yard” (again, their caps not mine). But really what is so not hip hop about this place is the Ed Hardy font on their sign.
