Kick Off Kak

KAK.

That the opening concert for the inaugural FIFA World Cup on South African soil features just three South African bands, and none of them are headlining. While we have no problem with Vusi Mahlasela’s inclulsion, how can the organisers justify the super-niched alt.rock flyweights Blk Jks and vanilla adult contemporary KFC rockers The Parlotones over the likes of Johnny Clegg, HHP, Simphiwe Dana, Sipho Hotstix Mabuse, Tumi and the Volume, Tidal Waves, The Dirty Skirts, 340ml… hell even Die Antwoord would have made more sense, and been more representative of the rainbow nation, than these guys!

KIF. Nice work on the poster.

love the way all the african acts are sandwiched at the bottom like some kind of 2nd rate global anomalies-haha we all thought the world cup was about bringing africa to the world HAHAHA more like broadening the market for international conglomerates-ok so we know this but to do this to our culture is different from dissing our breweries ect-this is far more dire than anyone thinks-this is war- this is shit we’ve adopted since 94 as our mantra thats fuking us -this is the reason guns are legal and ganja isnt -this is capatilism and its sucking us DROOOOG-This event should have had all the african heavyweights anything less is BULLSHIT

Name one African band that has sold as many albums as either Black Eyed Peas, Shakira or Alicia Keys? Let’s face it, this is an international concert in support of a global event. The organisers are obliged to headline with globally popular acts in order to draw international attention. It’s just business and to assume otherwise would be naive.
