Elvis Mask

KIF. This 1970s-era Elvis Presley mask from Malawi. Currently showing at the Brooklyn Museum in NYC. As the blurb attests, the painted wood “Elvis” mask was worn by a “secret society” made up of Chewu peoples during ceremonies and rituals. KAK. There’s no proof that they ever sang Malawian versions of “Love Me Tender” or “Hound Dog” at these ceremonies.
