LABAND IS BACK

07.07.2015

Kif. Ten years have passed since Felix Laband’s last release and this month the conscious SA beatmaker will be restoring our faith in electronic music again with his long-awaited, thought provoking and political new album Deaf Safari…

Composed of sampled recordings from the media landscape and taking inspiration from kwaito, house, American Roots music and about a million poignant books, Laband describes Deaf Safari as “an audio collage of subjects that speak of the world I live in”.

The album will be revealed with two live shows at Cape Town’s New Space Theatre on the 10th and 11th of July in collaboration with visual artist Kerry Chaloner and jazz master man, Shane Cooper. We happen to have three single tickets to give away to the shows! To enter, comment on the post below and tell us about the last Felix Laband song that rattled your bones and re-routed your brain…

Deaf Safari is the sound of the 7 o’clock news in both heaven and hell. Some of it will make you jive, some of it will make you cry… but mostly it’s just the sound of an honest white guy.” – Felix Laband.

Here’s just one of the many Laband tracks that have moved Mahala. Electronic music doesn’t have to be a ding-dong thing…

Awesome to see Felix back in action. The first guy from these here parts that got electronic beats sounding world class. Run, alive, run blew still remains a life changing experience. A long list of others but that was my first. Couldn’t believe it was a local dude pumping such clever, intricate and melodious beats. Hope Zuma get a link to Ding dong thing and hangs his head in shame. Superb work. Kap hom flou, Felix.
