We back in the city Cape Town, KOOLOUT LIVE presents the wonderfully talented ZAKI IBRAHIM, brought to you by BUTAN and Blackberry, 2nd July at Club Voom Voom, Cape Town.

Zaki Ibrahim’s music is captivating and vibrant. It’s thick with poetics, and steeped in a delicious mixture of earnest emotion and humor. It comes from knowing a struggle, though it’s never really about struggle, having been shaped by the diversity of her apartheid-era hometown and household, where the lessons of Islam fed into discussions of various topics.

This fine web of worlds is present in every note, every tone, every word, and it is what makes her music both timeless and so undeniably fresh. It was due to a music-filled childhood, that she was introduced to Hip-hop for the first time whilst living in South Africa, after which she continued her journey with music as a teen in Canada’s west coast. It was there that Zaki realised her calling as a musician, and began to build on her craft, swiftly garnering attention, industry and media praise, and emerging as a noteworthy talent on both sides of the Atlantic.

Zaki has worked with producers like King Britt (PHILLY), DJ Spinna (NY), DJ Center (Giant Step), Richard the Third (SA), LV (UK), and Nick Holder (Toronto). She has also shared the stage with Erykah Badu, DJ Fresh, Saul Williams, Tumi and the Volume and K’Naan.

2009 was an explosive year for Zaki, who was named best artist by Toronto’s Now Magazine, and received a Juno Nod for the best R&B with the song Money. This was from her EP Eclectica: Episodes in Purple, which she released and toured in both South Africa and the US.

Now with 80% of her Latest solo album done, Zaki has new songs to offer to her live performances, so come find out all bout Zaki Ibrahim, through the best way possible: her wonderful music.
