Zaki Ibrahim Live in Braamfontein
JOHANNESBURG. Critically acclaimed songstress Zaki Ibrahim takes centre stage at #2sidesofthebeat— Kid Fonque’s monthly offering at vintage nightspot Kitchener’s Carvery Bar in Braamfontein. On Saturday 2 June, Ibrahim will share the stage with London-based DJ/producer Jonny Miller, local hip hop icon DJ Bionic and Kid Fonque.
Canadian born Zaki Ibrahim has been impressing audiences with her powerful voice and enchanting live performances—which integrate strong visual elements. Impossible to pigeonhole and drawing on a broad range of stylistic influences, Ibrahim embodies the concept behind #2sidesofthebeat, a night which aims to bring together innovative acts and artists without being bound by any specific genre.
The man behind the event is Kid Fonque, the DJ alter-ego of Allan Nicoll who busies himself by day as Soul Candi Records’ label manager. Named after his current double disc mix, Two Sides of the Beat, Nicoll launched his monthly nights of the same name in Braamfontein late last year.
“There are so many ideas and sounds bubbling under in Johannesburg and South Africa—” he says, “true independent minds and creatives doing what they love. #2sidesofthebeat is a small platform where we can listen to these sounds and ideas and have a lot of fun doing it.”.
Red Bull has recently put its name behind #2sidesofthebeat.
#2sidesofthebeat presents Zaki Ibrahim. 2 June 2012, R50. Doors open at 9PM.
