Waxing Lyrical Launch18.06.2012
We suggest you get down to Mercury this Wednesday for a mid-week gig. Mercury Live is launching their new event series, Waxing Lyrical and the line-up is killer. Not only do we think this is definitely the spot to be in the Mother City this week, but we’re also going to give away some tickets. Yup, we’re handing out a double ticket to the person who can tell us what Waxing Lyrical means. Make it up, be funny, get creative and those tickets could be yours. Post your answer on the Mahala Facebook page and remember to tag Mahala and the event page. Bingo!
Join Mercury Live at the launch of their new bi-monthly event series entitled “Waxing Lyrical” – these evenings are all about celebrating the art of songwriting and will feature stripped down performances by leading solo artists and bands alike.
We kick off with a bang on 20 June featuring:
Their rootsy, bluesy rock is purposely fuss free. “From the start, this was a back-to-basics band,” explains singer Jacques Moolman. “It had to be a three-piece so we could keep it simple. We wanted to make short, fast, banging tracks. Basically, music that was fun to play live and easy for a crowd to connect with.”
The degree of nuance and experimentation inherent to their approach makes it difficult to classify Andrew James and the Steady Tiger. It is still more difficult to explain how a guitarist and a drummer (not even half a rock band really) can create music so deeply layered and sonically diverse.
GLEN HARTMANN MUSIC
Cape Town musician, Glen Hartmann, has grown up singing and playing various instruments. After experimenting with his sound in a few bands he decided to pursue a solo music career. 2011 marked the start of a new sound as Glen experimented with the Indie Rock genre.
Performances start at 9pm
