Vusi Mahlasela and special guest Karen Zoid to grace the Paul Cluver Amphitheatre stage

Following the great success, overwhelming postive feedback and sold out shows in Cape Town before, the paths of two South African music legends will converge again on 10 March when VusiMahlasela and Karen Zoid share the stage at Paul Cluver Forest Amphitheatre in Grabouw.

Although the show as a whole will focus on Vusi, Karen will join him for some very poignant numbers. The two musical greats are appearing in concert together to emphasise the integration of South African people through combining their music and audiences. The audience can expect an unforgettable concert intimately featuring two awe-inspiring musical offerings, which may appear different at first, yet reveals the very same soulful expression and celebration of our rainbow nation.

VusiMahlasela, simply known as ‘The Voice’ to many in South Africa, celebrates 20 years as a recording artist this year. It’s been two decades since the release of his now iconic debut album ‘When You Come Back’, and Vusi has gone on to release a further seven albums. His most recent album ‘Say Africa’ was recorded in the US and produced by legendary American Blues icon TajMahal. The album was released in late 2010 and subsequently nominated for a South African Music Award in 2011. Vusi’s unique body of work has garnered multiple sales, awards and critical acclaim, firmly establishing Vusi as a star of contemporary African music. Adored both at home and abroad – where he tours extensively – Vusi remains a humble man who still resides in his beloved community of Mamelodi, outside Pretoria, Tshwane. Celebrated for his distinct, powerful voice and his poetic, optimistic lyrics, his sound is a hybrid of folk, world, blues and soul. Mahlasela recently performed with Paul Simon for a week of shows in New York, toured with banjoist Bela Fleck as well as withfolk sensation Ray Lamontagne. Don’t miss this rare chance to see a singer who Nobel Laureate Nadine Gordimer describes as “a national treasure” on home soil.

Karen Zoid, with a career span of over a decade, has earned numerous accolades including gold album sales and SAMA awards. She has shared the stage with international acts like John Mayer, Annie Lennox, Metallica, Simple Plan, Hothouse Flowers, Seal and UB40. The release in 2002 of her first solo album, “Poles Apart” fired the imagination of both critics and the public when she burst onto the scene with the song “Afrikaners is Plesierig”. The song became iconic and Zoid became South Africa’s queen of rock. Over the years fans were introduced to songs like “Beautiful, Deurmekaar and Onssoek rock & roll”. In 2005, “Small Room” became one of the biggest songs play- listed on radio, while Aeroplane Jane became the most requested song over the past three years. In November 2010, Karen released “*Terms & Conditions”, to great acclaim, and is set to release her latest all-Afrikaans album in April 2012.
