Jean Grae

One Blood Tickets

19.03.2014

She doesn’t like to play by the rules. Jean Grae is undoubtedly a crafty lyricist and, having weathered a few storms in her career, has evolved as a legendary underground hip-hop artist with a fuck-you attitude that has cleverly avoided the usual female typecasts of the industry. The wily daughter of Abdullah Ibrahim is heading up the One Blood Music Festival in Port Elizabeth and as usual, we’ve got the good stuff for you. A pair of tickets to the festival on 22nd March – free – just show us how excited you are and email all your details.

During her stay in PE Jean Grae will animate  workshops for The Power Up Youth Project which uses large scale puppetry and processional art to encourage young people to see themselves as agents of constructive change in the world. Basically, get up and do it.

A procession is taking place in Joe Slovo at 10am before the One Blood Festival starts and then the kids will perform with Jean Grae as the opening act of the festival . Everyone is invited to join in the procession.

Venue: Grand Hotel in Central Port Elizabeth
Date: 22nd March
Time: 1pm until 11pm.
Line up: Australian slam poet champion Luka Lesson, Cape Town band D’versCT and the following artists from Nelson Mandela Bay: Asanda Mqiki (Jazz), Rob Thompson (Blues), Skank N Roots (Reggae), Umle and Hip Hop artists such as Schaik, Jbux, Hishaam and Adon Geel.

For the first time since its inception in 2010 the One Blood Music Festival will have a cover charge of R60 in order to raise funds in favour of Artworks for youth. Tickets for the festival are limited and can be purchased at the Art EC community gallery in Bird Street between 8 am and 5pm or booked at: onebloodbenefitconcert@gmail.com

Terms and conditions apply. Competition closes end of Friday 21st March.

So so excited for the last 4years I have consistantly attended One Blood Festival. and seen great perfomance from jazz, soul, reggae to hip hop amazing energy from the local acts. Truely untapped talents. I am more overwhelmed now that I hear Ms Jean Grae will be joining the stage it Leaves a great impact that not only Eastern Cape will recognise but South Africa and intenationally.

Its a blood pumping festival that I know and enjoy always with my freands,I dont even want to imagine what if I or one of my friends missed the only One Blood Fest that we never wanted even in our dreams to miss because of having no ticket. its funny because I still feel like I am there just by the thought and the massive experience of always being there annual since its inception.

I am still watching previous dvds, truely awesome perfomances everytime.
    Music does’nt fail no man.

    Hey!!!

I’m Asekho Funde and I’ve been a Jean Grae supporter for as long as I can remember. I’m a struggling female emcee myself that hails from Port Elizabeth.

What makes me excited about her coming to our town is that I know she’ll be ripping her set apart. She even said so live on air during a KQ fm interview that she’ll be setting the stage on on fire and I have no doubts about that.

I believe in her vision, The Power Up The Youth Project and Surf Shop. I can relate to the amount of passion and life that she just exudes.

Also excited to see local acts, just go crazy and have fun, and if I win the tickets, I’d use the opportunity to network and hopefully get myself on the line-up for next years One Blood Music Festival.
