Solace

The roads and railway tracks that have transported migrant labourers to and fro, from home to work and back, are the veins which have pumped life into the economies of many southern African countries. The festive season is usually a time for people working away from their homes to make their return to the place of their birth, or to a place where their kin is clustered. For those Zimbabweans whose homes are far from Cape Town, Oliver Mtukudzi offered a means to reconnect emotionally, without the physical journey. And for those in the audience for whom home is a place in reconstruction, he offered solace.
