Mahala Surf & Reggae Festival

Surf & Reggae Festival

Tidal Waves, Bed on Bricks, Fletcher and comedian Kagiso Lediga will be playing to a packed out South Peninsula Cape Town crowd next weekend. It’s a fund raising gig for Mahala’s non-profit philanthropic association the Mahala Surf Co.

Bed on Bricks

Our Mahala Surf Co. exists to empower disadvantaged communities through surfing. We spend most of our time collecting and distributing second hand surf equipment to grass roots surf initiatives around South Africa – from Muizenberg in Cape Town to J-Bay, Mdumbi, Port St Johns, Umzumbe and the Durban city centre.

So if you bring a board to donate to the event we’ll let you in for FREE. A lot of the kids from these surf initiatives are now good enough to represent their provincial teams. But they’re surfing on old, borrowed, dinged and damaged hand-me-down surfboards. We need some of your moolah to make sure that anyone who makes a provincial team gets a custom-shaped surfboard so they can compete as equals with the rest of the competitors. Apart from that we have a skills training and computer literacy initiative that also needs funds.

Kagiso Lediga

And so some of South Africa’s most talented artists: Tidal Waves, Bed On Bricks, Fletcher and Kagiso Lediga are all volunteering their time and talent to help us rock the Kom and raise the bucks for the Mahala Surf Co cause.

Gig starts at 8pm on Saturday the 19 December 2009 at the Kommetjie Primary School Hall. R40 gets you in the door, or bring an old surfboard to donate and get in for MAHALA
